Assistant Secretary Jose Fernandez is traveling to Madrid, Spain, from May 25 - 28. The purpose of his visit is to lead the U.S. delegation at the U.S.-EU Political Dialogue on Measures to Curb Terror Finance. Assistant Secretary Fernandez will discuss U.S. ideas to further counterterrorism cooperation and will meet with the EU’s Counterterrorism Coordinator, Giles de Kerchove. He and the delegation will explore ways the U.S. can better interact with the EU as it structures its post-Lisbon institutions to fight a common global security threat.
While in Madrid, Assistant Secretary Fernandez will also meet with the American Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board and participate in an innovation roundtable for Spanish entrepreneurs as a follow up to the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship (http://www.state.gov/entrepreneurshipsummit/). He will have several bilateral meetings with senior government officials to discuss terror finance and the global economic crisis. Throughout his trip, Assistant Secretary Fernandez will highlight our efforts in the areas of telecommunications cooperation, e-health, intellectual property rights, and fostering economic growth around the globe.
