Hoyer Statement on President’s Speech on Wall Street Reform

WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after President Obama delivered a speech on the need for Wall Street reform earlier today:

“Since taking office, Democrats have fought for the middle class and working families as we have worked to turn the economy around from the deep recession and financial crisis left behind by the Bush Administration. Wall Street reform is critical as our economy recovers to ensure that taxpayers are never again put on the hook for bad and risky choices made by the big banks on Wall Street. I hope Republicans stop trying to water down the Senate bill and instead join our effort to put common-sense rules in place that hold Wall Street accountable. I look forward to seeing the Senate pass strong Wall Street reform legislation in the near future, and working with them to get a bill to the President’s desk.”
