The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has partnered with its’ sister Commerce agency, the Bureau of Census to conduct Export Compliance Programs focusing on the Automated Export System (AES) and how reporting in the AES may impact companies’ compliance with BIS's Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and Census' Foreign Trade Regulations. BIS's Office of Technology Evaluation (OTE) will discuss industry's determination of licensing requirements based on what's the item, where it's going, who is involved and how the item is used. OTE will also cover reporting of EAR related export control data in AES, the seven best practices for reducing unlawful diversion risk, and AES changes planned for the Export Control Reform initiative.
“Now that AES is mandatory, most government agencies with an export interest are using AES to measure compliance with regulations,” says OTE Office Director Gerard Horner. “BIS is committed to working with Census to educate industry on properly reporting export control information in AES, and prevent harmful inadvertent AES reporting errors.”
Upcoming seminars are being held in Denver, CO on October 3, Memphis, TN on October 17, and Jacksonville, FL on November 7. To view the program flyers and register, go to www.census.gov/aes and click on conferences under the “meetings and presentations” header. The cost for each Export Compliance Program is $249.00 per person and includes breakfast and lunch. On the day following the programs, the Census Bureau AES Client Representatives will conduct AESPcLink Workshops for $75.00 per person.
