Ford Aug. U.S. sales rise 13%

CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- Ford Motor Co. on Tuesday said U.S. sales in August rose 13% from the same month a year ago, led by improved sales of the Focus and Fusion brands. Ford said it sold 197,249 vehicles during the month, compared with 175,220 in August of 2011. Focus sales rose 35%, while Fusion sales increased by 21%. Passenger car sales rose 7% in August, while truck sales rose 6%. Ford added it plans to build 725,000 vehicles in the fourth quarter, up 7% from the fourth quarter of 2011. The company also said it will be slightly below its previous third quarter 2012 North American production forecast of 690,000 vehicles, with one month of production left in the quarter.
