JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas – Six dozen officers have been selected as intelligence squadron command candidates, Air Force Personnel Center officials announced.

The intelligence career field development team met at AFPC in June to select the squadron command candidates, said Maj. Nicole Francis, intelligence officer assignments team.

Officers are vectored at various times throughout their careers to help them develop and prepare for positions of greater responsibility. Development teams consider every aspect of an officer’s career, including demonstrated leadership, professional and career development, leadership potential, and whole-person factors.

“The intelligence field is critical to national defense, and officers selected for command must be committed, focused and ready for increasingly more demanding responsibilities,” Francis said.

Being a candidate does not guarantee that a member will be selected for command, she explained. Those who are selected will assume their command during calendar year 2013. Candidates who are not matched to an intelligence command position will be recommended for 365-day extended deployment squadron command, Air Education and Training Command recruiting and training squadron command, as well as for Reserve Officer Training Corps detachment command opportunities.
