Hoyer Statement on Republican Senators Blocking the Bring Jobs Home Act
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Senate Republicans blocked consideration of S.3364, the Bring Jobs Home Act:
“I was disappointed that Senate Republicans blocked legislation today that would have ended tax breaks for companies shipping jobs overseas. The Bring Jobs Home Act, one of the bills House Democrats added to our Make It In America jobs plan last week, would eliminate deductions for moving expenses when companies outsource and would provide a tax credit to those businesses that bring jobs back home. This type of reform is necessary to stop encouraging the export of jobs and instead help manufacturers hire workers here to produce goods we can export across the world.
“Not only have Republicans refused to introduce a jobs plan of their own, they have consistently blocked consideration of Make It In America bills that would create jobs, boost economic competitiveness, and provide certainty to our businesses and middle-class families. I urge Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader Cantor to put the Bring Jobs Home Act on the Floor – along with other Make It In America legislation – immediately. We should not delay taking steps that would move our recovery forward and get more Americans back to work.”
